about
“A Snake Called Ean”, off Visibly Choked’s self-titled EP, is set in motion by a catchy bass line and clockwork krautrock drumming, where guitar parts intertwine under softly sung words about the trials of relationships. Its lyrics, “It’s so much harder / To love you than to need you”, floated atop a crescendo that eventually fizzles, are, all at once, the hunger that feeds loneliness and the dread that comes when one tries to handle a snake.
lyrics
Apathy is taking over me
Picking at me like a flea
Can’t move, can’t think
Now, I need a drink
Softness of forgetting
Sweet clouds of numbing
It’s so much harder
To love you than to need you
I can get through the days
It’s the night that weighs
When memories relapse
And barriers collapse
Days full of care
Promises made of air
It’s so much harder
To love you than to need you
I eat lovers
Without care or distinction
You fed an endless hunger
I tore you asunder
You were slaughtered and burned
For a love I could never return

Tunic is a force of nature infused with sarcastic rage and societal apprehension.
If you like your music noisy and driven by an absolutely pummeling rhythm section that manages to stay groovy as hell, this is the band and album for you. Pear Nighthawk

You know, this album, and particularly "Perfect World" give this sort of "your life is what you make it" kind of theme to it---all while being served with a very hip and catchy melody...personally I'm transitioning from #3 to #2 in terms of this song, and it only took 23 years! Aaron Jay Turkheimer
Adopting an optimistic, genre-fluid mindset atypical to most contemporary punk rock, the Aussies rage against the machine with glee. Bandcamp New & Notable May 2, 2024

The great underlying instrumentation paired with Florence's droll stream of consciousness lyrics make this album stand out. It feels so personal and confessional. Favorite tracks are Strong Feelings and Leafy. I've heard Scratchard Lanyard on alt radio and love that one as well. tofupotpie
